“Places
we remember and places we anticipate are mingled in present time. Memory and
anticipation in fact, constitute the real perspective of space, giving it
depth.”_ Aldo
Van Eyck
This describes the relationship between time and space in adaptive reuse architecture.

I have been reading through some theory on adaptive reuse during the past week. Here are some quotes that I found interesting.
“out
of the encounter between old envelope and new requirements and means, a unique
object will be born- one which is no mere juxtaposition, but a synthesis from
the point of view of both construction and architecture”_Claude
Soucy
This basically means that the use to which any building has been converted to, has to feature
some sort of symbolic content equivalent to that found in the original use.

Computers Rendering Assignment with Autocad
Using different rendering programs I will be rendering the same image just to see the render quality I can produce from these programs. Not too bad I must admit; good illumination of space and reflection from materials. The next render will be from 3D Studio Max, stay tuned; here is the original image enlarged.

Here is a great example of adaptive reuse locally. The Orlando Towers in Soweto, Gauteng Province.
Its not only great African murals painted on the towers but they are also used for extreme sports such as bungee jumping, abseiling, zip lining and a pendulum swing. At the base of the towers there is a popular entertainment centre. Talk about an exceptional tourist attraction!
